The Salvation Army of Sheboygan County has been raising money to build a
new emergency shelter, free clinic, and enhanced food pantry. Their
current shelter is overflowing, has obstacles such as stairs that are
hazardous to patients with handicaps and moms with strollers, and
currently it is a struggle to accommodate the community’s most pressing
needs of emergency shelter, food, health services and a helping hand in
returning to a path of self-sufficiency. The plan is to construct a
16,400 square foot addition while renovating sections of the current
facility.
The additional space and improved layout will allow for greater
opportunities for many programs and services. The clinic will add beds,
and there will be a separate area for men and women. The food pantry
will be larger and located on one level for more streamlined operations.
There will be free parking spaces added to easier access, and social
services offices will be clustered together for more convenient client
use.
